Sunflower Trips in Regional NSW Australia
You probably feel unsafe to take flights or cruises going aboard during this pandemic era and wartime. But luckily we live in Australia – A big beautiful island lying in the southern hemisphere. There are so many spectacular places where we can explore to even just in New South Wales.
This time I’d like to recommend two sunflower fields people would love.
- Sandstone Sunflowers in Quirindi NSW
- Hunter Valley Sunflowers NSW
Sandstone Sunflowers Quirindi

It will take more than 5-hour driving to get there from Sydney. The Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre at Willow Tree, located on the New England Highway, can lead you to this field where the farmer has agreed to accept visitors. On the day we came, this information centre was closed due to the Covid-19. So we took quite a while and drove around and around to find the place. But it was worthy. While we were still one kilometre far from the sunflower field, we saw a big bright yellow patch among the green. That was so amazing! Soon enough, you’ll be confronted by tens of thousands of sunflowers that are nearly as tall as you are! Find any path that appeals to you and enjoy being surrounded by sunflowers.
Please keep in mind that these flowers are the farmers’ livelihood, so step carefully and don’t harm the crop.
Donation is welcome even though the entry is free.
Flowering can occur at any time between December and March, depending on the season.

Hunter Valley Sunflowers NSW
If you don’t like to drive too far only for sunflowers, there is a much closer sunflower field for Sydneysiders – Hunter Valley Sunflowers NSW. It is only 2-hours drive from Sydney. This sunflower field is much bigger than Sandstone Sunflower in Quirindi but the size of the sunflower is comparatively smaller than the ones in Quirindi. Anyhow, you surely enjoy diving in this sunflowers sea. It is just gorgeous! You are allowed to pick the sunflower home for only $3 each.

The field is only open in the sunflower season which is around January every year. you need to check with the owner before you go. Here are the details.
