A place for the family to getaway

I have searched on the map of NSW to see any beach to be reached with two hours by driving. Actually, there are quite a lot of beaches to go in Southcoast. But limited by the time frame, I chose to go to the beaches near Wollongong – Werilla Beach, Austinmer Beach & Coledale Beach.

Werilla Beach

Werilla Beach is located in Shellharbour, just south of Wollongong. It takes only 1 to 1.5 hours driving to get there from Sydney Centre. When you arrive there, you will be amazed by the long and stretchy beach. There is a big and beautiful park called Little Lake Park along the beach. I saw quite a lot of families having barbecues under the pavilions. The water beside the park is quite calm and there are a lot of little kids learning swimming. Mums and Dads were paddling with their kids as well. On this side on the park, it is very good for the family’s gathering and partying.

Werilla Beach is a curving shape. So you walk around the curve then you get to the other side of the beach and you find the beach is even longer and the wave is pretty rough. People are quite enjoying surfing and fishing there. I really love watching people’s surfing which is a great sport combining bravery and art.

The scenery of this side is breathtaking. You will totally be stunned by the wave and the rock. There are a few kinds of plants growing in the crystal water but I don’t know their name. It is a place for taking beautiful photos!

Austinmer Beach

On the way home, I also went to Austinmer Beach which is about half-hour driving from Werilla Beach. It is more closer to Wollongong. Austinmer Beach is relatively smaller comparing to Werilla Beach. But it is good for family having fun. There are two swimming pools. But you need to put more attention to the safety because the wave is quite rough.

Coledale Beach

Coledale Beach is just about three Kilometres away from Austinmer Beach. There is a big camping site on the beach. I saw quite a lot of caravans or campervans parking there. The beach is facing to the east. I can imagine how beautiful it is to see the sun rising from the sea when you are inside the camp on the beach.

By the end of the afternoon, I finished this one-day trip to South Coast. There are endless beautiful beaches on South Coast. You can explore them bit by bit and I am sure you will find a lot of surprises. Please click here for the video of this trip. Enjoy!
